Pets are not allowed, except for certified assistance animals in accordance with applicable regulations, which must be notified prior to the journey.

Is it mandatory to tip?
There is no obligation to tip staff. Any amount to be given towards gratuities for all the staff onboard is completely at the guests’ discretion.
Are there medical services on board the train?
The Andean Explorer train is equipped to safeguard passengers’ health throughout the journey, offering onboard medical services that include a nurse available 24 hours a day to handle any emergencies.
Since the trip includes visits to cities located at altitudes above 4,000 meters, you may experience dizziness or physical discomfort, commonly associated with “soroche” or altitude sickness. In such cases, the train is equipped with oxygen tanks and masks, available for use if needed, under the supervision of our onboard nurse.
While basic medical assistance is provided during the journey, it is strongly recommended to travel with medical insurance that covers any unforeseen health issues.
Are cards accepted on board?
Yes, on board the Belmond Andean Explorer luxury train, you can pay with credit or debit cards. Accepted payment methods include Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, and PayPal.
Although most services on the Andean Explorer—such as meals, drinks, and excursions—are included in the journey fare, if you wish to purchase additional services like spa treatments or premium beverages, you can pay for them by card on board.
Is it possible to travel with a baby?
Yes, traveling with a baby is allowed on board the Andean Explorer. Babies aged 0 to 2 years may travel at no additional cost, provided they share a cabin with a responsible adult (over 18 years old) and do not require an extra bed. Only one baby is allowed per cabin.
If you are traveling with a baby (meals included at no extra charge), you may let us know the foods your child can tolerate, as well as any dietary restrictions, so we can forward the information to the train manager, who will confirm which options can be provided on board.
It is important to note that the train is not equipped with specific baby facilities such as cribs, high chairs, or changing tables. Additionally, the experience is primarily designed for an adult audience, so there are no activities or services tailored to young children.
In the case of traveling with children (ages 3 to 11), please note that they are charged the same fare as adults. There is no separate rate for children. Children are not allowed to travel without an accompanying adult. Please also note that the system only allows one adult and one child per cabin.
Is there Internet access?
No, the train does not offer Wi-Fi internet access on board.
The Andean Explorer invites its passengers to enjoy an authentic and deeply immersive travel experience, without Wi-Fi or television on board. Designed to encourage digital disconnection, this exclusive luxury train journeys through Peru’s majestic Andean landscapes, where mobile signal is limited but emotions run high.
By setting screens aside, travelers can fully embrace the rhythm of the train, savor refined cuisine, take part in enriching cultural excursions, and enjoy uninterrupted views of some of South America’s most breathtaking natural scenery.
What do I need to board the train?
-
Carry a valid ID or passport
-
Arrive at least 30 minutes before boarding time
-
Present your train ticket, either digital or printed
-
Luggage allowance: Up to 2 checked bags, with a total weight of 23 kg / 50.6 lb
If the passenger fails to present valid identification and cannot sufficiently prove ownership of the travel ticket, boarding may be denied. In such cases, no refunds will be issued under any circumstances.
Additionally, the company reserves the right to restrict or deny boarding to individuals whose health condition is deemed unsuitable for travel and/or to women in advanced stages of pregnancy (seven months or more).
What is the type of current and sockets on board?
What security is on the train?
The Belmond Andean Explorer train provides a safe and well-managed environment at every stage of the journey, thanks to a comprehensive security service and support vehicles on the ground that accompany the train, especially in remote areas.
On board, a professional team oversees all operations, with 24-hour medical assistance available and communication systems in place to respond to any unforeseen events—ensuring a worry-free luxury experience.
Any health recommendations to keep in mind?
Cusco, Puno, and Arequipa are cities located, on average, above 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) above sea level. For this reason, you may experience dizziness or physical discomfort, commonly associated with “soroche,” also known as altitude sickness. To help prevent symptoms, we recommend the following:
-
Drink coca leaf tea or take altitude sickness tablets — both are effective remedies.
-
Stay well hydrated and get plenty of rest during the trip.
-
Eat light meals, as digestion is slower at high altitudes.
In case of symptoms related to altitude sickness, the train is equipped with oxygen tanks and masks, available for use if needed, under the supervision of our onboard nurse.
While basic medical assistance is provided during the journey, we strongly recommend traveling with medical insurance that covers any unexpected health issues.
